At the sitting held today, the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality reviewed the position of Roma women on the occasion of 8 April, International Roma Day and as part of the action Month of Roma Women Activism, 8 March - 8 April 2013, realised by the Serbian Roma Women’s Network and OSCE Mission to Serbia.

Public Hearing Organised by Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality

The Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality hosted a public hearing today on “The role of the Ombudsman and Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection in the protection and improvement of human rights and discussion on the need to introduce a legislative framework”, organised with the help of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and Centre for Research, Transparency and Accountability.

At the sitting held on 7 March, the members of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality unanimously decided to organise a public hearing on “The role of the Ombudsman and Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection in the protection and improvement of human rights and discussing the need to introduce a legislative framework”.

11th Sitting of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality

In line with article 44, paragraph 4, of the National Assembly Rules of Procedure, the members of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija and the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region held a joint sitting to review the Missing Persons Commission’s Activity Report covering the period from 1 January to 31 December 2012, and 2013 Activity Plan, adopted by the Government.

At the roundtable sitting held on 28 February, the members of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality discussed issues of importance for the improvement of the position of persons with disabilities and were presented the Common European Guidelines on the Transition from Institutional to Community-Based Care.

Public Hearing Held to Mark International Human Rights Day

The National Assembly’s Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality held its second public hearing, with the topic “Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Serbia”, on 10 December 2012, to mark the International Human Rights Day. The public hearing was attended by the MPs, representatives of numerous state, international and non-governmental organisations, as well as national minority councils.
