12th Sitting of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality
At the sitting held on 7 March, the members of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality unanimously decided to organise a public hearing on “The role of the Ombudsman and Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection in the protection and improvement of human rights and discussing the need to introduce a legislative framework”.
The public hearing, scheduled for 18 March 2013, will address the need to amend and modify the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and the issue of the Belgrade principles on the relationship between national human rights institutions and parliaments.
Committee Chairman Meho Omerovic informed the Committee members that the National Assembly was addressed by the European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia, Jelko Kacin who suggested organising a two-day interparliamentary conference on the protection of the LGBT population in Belgrade, in June 2013, co-organised by the European Parliament and National Assembly. The Committee members unanimously accepted the proposal.
In the continuation, MP Srdjan Sajn informed the Committee members that Belgrade is to host the interparliamentary gathering titled “Roma in Europe”, on 7 May 2013, at the same time informing them of the growing interest in organising a public hearing on the topic.
Also, the Committee Chairman informed the Committee members on the organisation of the conference “Ohrid initiative – strengthening the 1325 community in the region”, to be held on 11 and 12 May 2013 in Ohrid, organised by the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence with the support of UN Women.
The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Meho Omerovic.
