    National Assembly Chairman attends Conference of Speakers of European Union Parliaments

    A delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, headed by the Chairman, Predrag Markovic, visited Budapest, Hungary, on Friday 6 May and Saturday 7 May 2005. At the invitation of the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, Dr Katalin Szili, Mr Markovic attended the Conference of the Speakers of European Union Parliaments, addressing the Conference in its section dealing with relations between the European Union and the Western Balkans.

    National Assembly Chairman attends spiritual assembly in Soko-Grad

    At the invitation of the chairman of the Committee of the Serbian Orthodox Church for marking the 200th anniversary of the First Uprising of Liberation, Lavrentije, the Bishop of Sabac and Valjevo, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, attended, on Tuesday, 3 May 2005, the final event to mark the 200th anniversary of the First Uprising of Liberation and Resurrection of Serbia, held at the monastery of St Nicholas of the Serbs in Soko-Grad near Ljubovija.

    National Assembly Chairman in Mokrin for Easter holidays

    At the invitation of the head of the North Banat District and the chairman of the Mokrin Community, on Easter Sunday, 1 May 2005, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, visited the town of Mokrin and attended the 15th World Easter Egg Rapping Championship, a contest involving the Orthodox custom of making coloured hard-boiled eggs for Easter, which people then rap against their friends’ eggs; the owner of the last uncracked egg is considered lucky.

    74th session of the Legislative Committee

    The Legislative Committee held its seventy-fourth session on 25 April.The Committee discussed, and assessed as legally possible, the Competition Protection Bill, as well as eighteen amendments submitted to it, while one amendment submitted to the Bill was deemed not to be in accordance with the Constitution and the legal system.

    6th session of the Youth and Sports Committee

    At its sixth session, held on 25 April, the Youth and Sports Committee adopted the Report on the implementation of four phases of the OSCE-financed project, Youth + Health = Sports, and established a plan for the implementation of the fifth phase of the project in Zlatibor District.

    Assembly Chairman attends memorial in honour of 190th anniversary of Second Serbian Insurrection

    On Sunday, 25 April 2005, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, attended a memorial event to honour the 190th anniversary of the Second Serbian Insurrection, on which occasion he laid a wreath at the Takovo Monument.
