National Assembly Speaker Talks to President of Pan-African Parliament

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the President of the Pan-African Parliament Roger Nkodo Dang, in official visit to the Republic of Serbia 9-11 November.

Gojkovic presented the initiative for institutional strengthening of cooperation to the President of the Pan-African Parliament and handed him a proposal of the cooperation agreement which the two heads of parliament agreed should soon be signed in order to renew and fortify the ties between Serbia and the African nations in the spirit of traditionally good and friendly relations.

Gojkovic said that, besides the efforts to join the European Union, Serbia also prioritises its relations with friendly states, among them the countries of the African continent.

Gojkovic and Nkodo Dang agreed that this is a historic visit as it is the first of its kind, while the Serbian Parliament Speaker also emphasised the importance of the Pan-African Parliament for Africa’s political integration and economic development, as well as international cooperation.

Nkodo Dang conveyed the African peoples’ message of friendship and solidarity with Serbia stressing that the states of the continent are open to cooperation with the Republic of Serbia with which they share historical ties, and adding that this visit will surely encourage the further development of relations.

Nkodo Dang said that he supports the preservation of Serbia’s territorial integrity and stands firm by this decision, for which the National Assembly Speaker thanked him, highlighting the supremacy of dialogue over one-sided moves and the need to establish an Association of Serb municipalities.

Gojkovic and Nkodo Dang also spoke about the preservation of cultural heritage in Kosovo-Metohija and on the African continent, as well as global threats such as terrorism.

The President of the Pan-African Parliament addressed the MPs at a Special Parliament Sitting.

The delegation of the Pan-African Parliament also comprises MP Malini Sewocksingh.
