National Assembly Speaker Receives Russian Deputy Prime Minister

Today, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic received Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and associates.

Greeting the National Assembly Speaker, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin deemed the meetings with the President of the Republic, Prime Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence very successful, adding that it was his pleasure to be at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia again, which he had visited previously as a deputy of the Russian Duma.
Deputy Prime Minister Rogozin was interested in the current political situation, the National Assembly’s activities and the stability of the parliamentary majority, as well as the position on the invitation extended to a delegation of the National Assembly to take part in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation as an observer.
National Assembly Speaker Stefanovic was pleased by the visit, based on the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries and two nations. He informed Deputy Prime Minister Rogozin about the structure of the current Assembly legislature, the number of MPs from the largest political parties at the Parliament and the stability of the ruling majority, considering that it is the largest number of MPs who make up the majority, unlike in the previous several parliament legislatures.
As regards the National Assembly delegation who would take part in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation as an observer, the Parliament Speaker informed his guest that he had sent a formal initiative to the Committee competent to create such a delegation and that he expected the Committee would adopt a conclusion on the formation of the group as soon as possible and forward it to the National Assembly for ruling where, he was sure, a big majority of MPs would vote in favour of the decision.
The National Assembly Speaker also conveyed the National Assembly’s readiness to offer support to the improvement of the two countries’ cooperation via its legislative activity. Stefanovic was particularly grateful for the assistance in addressing the Kosovo-Metohija issue, adding that Serbia would not recognise the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and that Serbia continues to prioritize its own sovereignty and the protection of Serbs in the Province.
