During her visit to the State Data Centre and Innovation District construction site in Kragujevac today, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic said that it is important to have a vision, not to be hateful, and that this project is part of a broader plan for the further development of Serbia.
Brnabic said that a big thing is ahead of all of us, and that is the further development plan for Serbia until 2035, which was announced by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
"It is important to say that the time of terror is behind us. And it is important that we now turn our attention to the projects, results, vision, plans and programmes for the next 10 years, to call for unity, to reduce tensions and to continue working. So it is important for the National Assembly to visit the concrete results, the concrete projects that we have managed to do and start in the last 12 years and, based on that, to give active participation and active proposals and suggestions for the Serbia 2030 and 2035 plan," said Brnabic. She toured the construction site together with the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Academician Bela Balint, the Director of the Office for Information Technologies and e-Government, Mihajlo Jovanovic, and the Mayor of Kragujevac, Nikola Dasic.
She added that as the Speaker of the National Assembly, together with the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society, she continues to tour Serbia, in order to see projects, analyse projects that were created thanks to the vision of the executive branch and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, but which would not have been possible without the support of the National Assembly and the MPs’ votes. "This is part of a broader plan for the further development of Serbia. And as it usually happens, when you do something good, the doors keep opening by themselves. Today, in Kragujevac, thanks again to the vision we had for Serbia and the faith we had in our people and in Kragujevac, we do not only have a State Data Centre. This is actually the heart, the centre of our electronic administration and the heart of our national platform for artificial intelligence," said Brnabic.
The Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Academician Bela Balint emphasised that the State Data Centre in Kragujevac was built according to the highest global TIER 4 standards, and that the Innovation District is becoming a unique centre of innovation in this part of Europe. "As part of the 'Leap into the Future - Serbia 2027' programme, we are building an Innovation District on 4.5 hectares, which in the final phase will have 62,000 square meters of office space and 23,000 square meters of garages. This district is not just for the IT community - it is a space where new ideas will be born, where people will be able to socialize, work and inspire each other, and it will also be open to all citizens and visitors of Kragujevac," said Balint. He added that this capital investment is changing the image of the city and the whole of Serbia, creating new jobs and stimulating economic development. "I am proud to be part of such a big step towards a future based on technology and innovation, and we will continue to support such projects that put Serbia on the map of world leaders in digital transformation," said Balint.
Kragujevac Mayor Nikola Dasic emphasised that this kind of cooperation between the state and local government goes beyond the usual framework. "The innovation district, which will also include the science and technology park, is of great importance. Maybe some see it straightaway and some do not. We also have a super-fast computer here that is open for use completely free of charge," said the Mayor. Dasic emphasised that Serbia must follow trends, progress and develop according to the most modern standards.
The delegation also included members of the National Assembly's Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society. The Innovation District in Kragujevac covers four and a half hectares, and in addition to space for companies from the ICT sector, it will also have a special science park, and the completion of the construction of all three planned facilities within the district is announced for 2027.
