Gojkovic and UK Foreign Secretary

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson, currently in official visit to Serbia.

Gojkovic emphasised the importance of the visit at this historic moment, the eve of the World War I Armistice Day and presented him with a symbolic gift – Natalie’s Ramonda in memory of Serbia’s suffering and liberation in the Great War.

Gojkovic and Johnson agreed that intensification of high-level parliamentary cooperation is essential for the advancement of overall cooperation and friendship and that parliamentary exchange is a very valuable tool for building trust.

The National Assembly Speaker said she was sure that, despite the dynamics and results of the post-Brexit process, the UK would continue to play a significant role on the European scene and in the relations with the European Union.

Johnson said that the goal of his visit is to show how much the UK values its friendship with Serbia. He stressed that, despite its leaving the European Union, the UK is not leaving Europe and that Serbia has a future as part of Europe.
