Gojkovic and Sarcevic Visit Elementary School “22 December” in Donja Trepca

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of the Child Maja Gojkovic and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Sarcevic visited Elementary School “22 December” in the village of Donja Trepca near Cacak to mark the beginning of the new school year, and stressed that all children in Serbia must receive the same education.

Gojkovic and Sarcevic presented the students with school bags and supplies, as well as a computer and 3 laptops. The National Assembly Speaker said that Serbia is focusing more and more on the education and development of children, stressing that the Parliament, Government and President Vucic all share the same objective – to make sure that children in rural communities receive the same education as children in urban areas.

“This is a special day for first graders and their parents because today their education begins, they begin to learn and become part of the education system and one day would be able to help make Serbia a better state”, said Gojkovic.

Gojkovic said that this is the first time in the 120-year long history of the elementary school in Donja Trepca that it is visited by a minister which demonstrates the state’s commitment to a uniform development of the education system all over Serbia.

Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Sarcevic said that it is the goal of Serbia, its Government and the Ministry he heads to give every student the same chances for education and development no matter whether they live in rural or urban areas.

“The purpose of the educational reform is to make the quality of education more visible, learning easier and to step into the digital era”, said Minister Sarcevic adding that the guiding idea is to use new equipment, such as the smart board which is to be secured in the near future, to make it possible for children in Donja Trepca to study in the same manner as the children in Cacak, Belgrade and the other cities in Serbia.

The Minister also said that more than 300 schools were renovated and re-equipped during the summer vacation, costing more than 1.2 million EUR each, all to help improve the quality of education in Serbia.

Elementary School “22 December” was also visited by Zoran Milosevic, Provincial Secretary for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
