The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Vice-Chairperson of the Chinese National People's Congress Cao Jianming visiting Serbia to attend the first meeting of the Commission for Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Chinese National People's Congress.
Gojkovic said that the Serbia-China relations are characterized by mutual trust and support on all issues of importance and that Serbia is proud of its excellent political relations with China, raised to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership and the highest point of development in history. The Serbian Assembly Speaker said she was most pleased that the Vice-Chairperson of the Chinese National People's Congress had launched its European tour by a visit to Serbia.
The Vice-Chairperson of the Chinese National People's Congress Cao Jianming said he was very happy to be visiting a friendly country like Serbia, stressing that the two countries share a long traditional friendship and that both sides’ personal efforts had in the last couple of years helped fast track the development of relations and the results of the meetings are becoming more and more visible.
He said that Chinese President Xi Jinping who paid a historic visit to Serbia in 2016 when the relations were raised to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership, has great expectations of the development of relations with Serbia which he considers truly important.
Cao Jianming said that the Chinese President also has great expectations of the “16+1” cooperation process and the “One Belt One Road” initiative and has on many occasions proven that China is committed to peace and friendly development, and a new type of international relations characterized by mutual respect and benefit.
Gojkovic thanked China for its unwavering principled support on the Kosovo-Metohija issue, stressing that Serbia truly appreciates China’s friendship and support in international forums which has never failed it, and which in turn proves that China is the builder and protector of international order based on international law.
The Parliament Speaker said that Serbia consistently supports the “One China” policy and that the continuation and deepening of cooperation across the board is one of Serbia’s chief priorities.
Cao Jianming thanked Serbia for making the development of relations with China a diplomatic priority and being consistent in its endorsement of the “One China” principle and for always offering steady support to issues of importance for China.
The Vice-Chairperson of the Chinese National People's Congress said that China would continue to support Serbia’s efforts to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Gojkovic and Cao Jianming agreed that cooperation between legislative institutions is an important segment of furthering the comprehensive strategic partnership, adding that the excellent interparliamentary cooperation was evidenced by the reciprocal visits of the parliament speakers.
Gojkovic said that the first meeting of the Commission set up during her visit to Beijing in 2017 demonstrates how important China considers its cooperation with Serbia and the excellent relations and “iron friendship” between the two states.
The Parliament Speaker said that the Commission as the highest mode of cooperation with other parliaments that the Serbian Assembly recognizes, provides an excellent framework to advance cooperation between the working bodies, parliamentary friendship groups and delegations in international parliamentary organizations.
Gojkovic also took the opportunity to congratulate Chinese President Xi Jinping on the election highlighting his role in the development of China, Chinese-style socialism and reform course evidenced in the numerous initiatives he personally launched, stressing that Serbia is truly enjoys China’s success.
