Gojkovic Meets with Chairman of Belarusian Parliament’s Upper Chamber

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Chairman of the Upper Chamber the Belarusian Parliament Mikhail Myasnikovich in Saint Petersburg where she is attending the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union session.


Gojkovic and Myasnikovich said that the excellent relations between Serbia and Belarus are founded on traditional friendship, cultural and historical ties and there is interest in promoting overall bilateral cooperation.

Myasnikovich said that Serbia and Belarus have ample options for cooperation and they should do all in their power to utilize them, especially in the sphere of economy, as well as in others.

Gojkovic thanked Belarus for supporting Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and not recognizing the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija.

The officials agreed that interparliamentary cooperation has been intensified by the exchange of high-level visits, as well as cooperation at the level of working bodies and friendship groups, and Gojkovic took the opportunity to mention that the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Belarus is one of the largest at the Serbian Assembly which testifies to the MPs’ interest in promoting relations between the two countries.

Gojkovic also said she expected Chairman Myasnikovich to come and visit Serbia, which would provide an excellent opportunity to put the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in Minsk in 2015 into operation. They also spoke about strengthening the cooperation between the parliamentary delegations to international parliamentary organizations.
