European Integrations Committee Chairman Takes Part in European Legal and Political Forum on Property Restitution in Serbia

Today, European Integrations Committee Chairman Laszlo Varga took part in the in European legal and political forum titled “Rectifying the historic injustice regarding property restitution in Serbia: how and when?” held at the National Assembly House.

The issue of property restitution to Serbian citizens is one of the debts of the democratic government, believes Laszlo Varga. Apart from it being one of the prerequisites for Serbia’s European integration, it is even more important to legally resolve the great injustice and make sure that no one is discriminated against in the legal solutions as in certain cases it would be impossible to restore the seized property while in other cases cash indemnity would be the only solution, which would be less valuable. Therefore, stressed Varga, the serious public debate which will precede the adoption of the restitution law is essential.

Bozidar Djelic, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Vincent Degert, European Union Ambassador to Serbia, Wolfram Maas, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Serbia, Jurij Bajec, professor at the Belgrade Faculty of Economy, Milan Parivodic, Chairman of Foreign Investments Services and Milivoje Antic, Restitution Network Coordinator also took part in the forum, organised by the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia magazine “Challenges of European Integrations” and GIZ legal reform project in Serbia.
