Kovacs and Lips Discuss Strengthening Parliamentary Cooperation between Serbia and FR Germany

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and European Integration Committee Chairperson Elvira Kovacs met today with Patricia Lips, Deputy Head of the German Bundestag CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group to discuss strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries at all levels.

Kovacs and Lips discussed the two parliaments’ mode of operation, with Deputy Speaker Kovacs informing her guest about the National Assembly’s parliamentary procedures, the MPs’ work in the plenum and at working body sessions. She briefed the guest on to the procedure for convening National Assembly and working body sessions, submitting bills and amendments to bills, as well as the procedure for their consideration and adoption. In the course of the conversation, they paid special attention to the work of the European Integration Committee headed by Kovacs.

The officials exchanged opinions on our country’s European integration process and Serbia's commitment to reforms in the field of democratic processes and the rule of law. They also discussed the state of human and minority rights in Serbia, with Deputy Speaker Kovacs emphasising our country's commitment to the European path, as well as the importance of harmonising ours with European legislation, noting that Serbia continues with strategic planning in all areas of the integration process and preparations for the future in the EU.

Deputy Speaker Kovacs also informed the guest about Serbia's position on the issue of so-called "Kosovo’s" membership of the in the Council of Europe and reiterated that Serbia remains committed to respecting the postulates of international law.

The officials also discussed other issues of importance for good relations between Serbia and FR Germany.
