25th Sitting of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications

At the sitting held on 22 March, the members of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications reviewed the Bill on National Spatial Data Infrastructure, submitted by the Government.

The Bill was presented by representatives of the submitter Gordana Zoric and Vasilija Zivanovic of the Republic Geodetic Authority who said that the coming law is to regulate the establishment and maintenance of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) in the Republic of Serbia.

The objective of NSDI is the establishment of the appropriate infrastructure to facilitate the access to information on the environment by securing public access and removing any obstacles to the exchange of data between public administration bodies both at the national level and wider cross-border cooperation.

The representatives of the submitter informed the Committee members that the bodies for the establishment of NSDI are the NSDI Council and its working groups, adding that the NSDI Council comprises 17 members appointed by the Government to a period of four years.

They said that the law would help economic development and creation of new economic subjects on the market.

The goal of the Bill is harmonization with European legislation and creation of legal grounds for the adoption of by-laws to set up the legislative framework for the full incorporation of the INSPIRE directive into the national legislation which has to be completed within the given deadline and is a requirement for Serbia’s EU accession.

The Committee members adopted the Bill on National Spatial Data Infrastructure, in principle, by majority vote.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Katarina Rakic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Ivana Stojiljkovic, Dr Vladimir Orlic, Dalibor Radicevic, Jasmina Karanac, Stefana Miladinovic, Goran Kovacevic and Dragan Jovanovic.
