Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The oldest international parliamentary organization (founded in 1889); represents the biggest forum where parliamentarians can discuss peace and cooperation among nations; it serves to improve the concept of representational democracy, establishment of contacts, cooperation and exchange of experiences among the Parliaments and parliamentarians; reviews issues of international importance, protection and promotion of human rights.
Plenary sessions are convened twice a year: the spring session held in one of the member states, and the fall session held in Geneva. During the sessions, meetings of working bodies are organized.
Our country has been a full member since 1891.

Universal Declaration on Democracy (video)
The National Assembly hosted the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, 13 – 17 October 2019, attended by 150 parliamentary delegations from around the world, among them 77 parliament speakers and 60 deputy speakers. The 141st IPU Assembly adopted the Belgrade Declaration presented by Mladen Grujic, member of the National Assembly delegation to the IPU and IPU Executive Committee.
Latest activities
- Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, headed by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic took part in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 5 – 9 April 2025. The delegation also comprised National Assembly Deputy Speaker Edin Djerlek and MPs Mladen Grujic and Ivana Stamatovic.
- Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic headed the National Assembly delegation that included MPs Olivera Denic and Natasa Bogunovic to the Parliamentary Meeting, held on the occasion of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, at the United Nations, organised by the IPU and UN-Women, in New York, USA, on 11 March 2025.
- Members of the National Assembly's standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic and Secretary General Srdjan Smiljanic, took part in this year's Parliamentary Hearing on 13 and 14 February 2025, traditionally held at the United Nations, in New York, USA.
- National Assembly delegation, headed by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic took part in the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Switzerland (Geneva), 12 – 17 October 2024. The delegation included National Assembly Deputy Speaker Edin Djerlek and MPs Mladen Grujic, Ivana Stamatovic, Ivana Rokvic, Prof. Dr Jelena Jerinic and National Assembly Secretary General Srdjan Smiljanic.
- National Assembly Deputy Speaker Edin Djerlek and MP Ivana Stamatovic, members of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, participated in the 10th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, held from 12 to 14 September 2024 in Yerevan.
- MPs Snezana Paunovic and Usame Zukorlic represented the National Assembly at the Parliamentary Hearing at the United Nations, organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in New York on 9 February 2024. This year's theme was "Putting an end to conflicts: Prescriptions for a peaceful future".
