Twenty-Ninth Sitting of the European Integrations Committee

At the sitting held on 4 October, the European Integrations Committee debated in principle three of the Bills on the agenda for the First Sitting of the Second Regular Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2010. Elaborating on the Bill on Accreditation, the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development stressed that purpose of its adoption is connecting the Serbian accreditation system with European and world systems, removing the technical obstacles to free trade and ensuring better quality and safety of the products on the market.



At the sitting held on 4 October, the European Integrations Committee debated in principle three of the Bills on the agenda for the First Sitting of the Second Regular Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2010. Elaborating on the Bill on Accreditation, the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development stressed that purpose of its adoption is connecting the Serbian accreditation system with European and world systems, removing the technical obstacles to free trade and ensuring better quality and safety of the products on the market.

The representative of the Ministry of Trade and Services briefed the Committee members on the most important solutions in the Bill on Consumer Protection. He pointed out that the Law on the Confirmation of the Stablisation and Association Agreement between the EU member states and Serbia obliges our country to harmonise its consumer protection standards with European standards.

The representatives of several consumer protection association pointed out that the new law does not contain the EU Consumer Credit Directive which was present in the draft of the bill during the public debate. The representatives of the submitters stated that the issue would be regulated by the National Bank of Serbia.

The innovations contained in the Bill on Air Transportation were elaborated by the representative of the Ministry of Infrastructure who, inter alia, pointed out that the document complies with the EU rules and directives and the Agreement on the Establishment of a European Common Aviation Area confirmed by the National Assembly in late June 2006.

The Committee accepted all the Bills in principle, by a majority of votes, with several reserved opinions.
