The Committee on Health and the Family held its twenty-ninth sitting on 29 March 2010. The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Dr Paja Momcilov and attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Health Dr Perisa Simonovic, Assistant Minister of Health Zorica Pavlovic, representatives of the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, Pharmaceutical Chamber of Serbia, Republic Health Insurance Institute, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management – Veterinary Directorate, Galenika and non-governmental organisation Pharmaceutical Core.

The Committee members considered in principle the Bill on Protection from Exposure to Tobacco Smoke and Bill on Medicines and Medical Devices, submitted by the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

The Bills were elaborated by the representatives of the Ministry of Health who briefed all present on the innovations and reasons to adopt these Bills, stressing that they were harmonised with European Union regulations, relevant conventions and directives regulating these fields.

Following the discussion on the Bill on Protection from Exposure to Tobacco Smoke in principle, the Committee voted on it – out of the eight Committee members present one voted in favour of the Bill, one did not vote, and six Committee members reserved their opinion.

Deputies Paja Momcilov, Dusanka Plecevic, Gordana Paunovic Milosavljevic, Nikola Zutic, Milan Dimitrijevic and Zarko Korac reserved their opinion.
