At the sitting held on 21 April, the Committee on Defense and Security considered the Military Security Agency’s 2008 Activity Report. The Chief of the Military Security Agency, Svetko Kovac and associates participated in the Committee sitting.
Giving the Activity Report, MSA Chief stressed that the Agency had successfully completed all its security tasks last year. Protection of the members of the Serbian military in the Land security zone along the Kosovo-Metohija administrative line, as well as the prevention of the spread of criminal and terrorist activities from the territory of Kosovo-Metohija and the actions of extremist Islamic movements were among the Agency’s priority tasks. Kovac stated that the Military Security Agency was engaged in preventing the activities of organised criminal groups directed against the Serbian Military and Ministry of Defense. MSA was also engaged in opposing all types of intelligence and counter-intelligence activities of foreign services. Kovac stressed that cooperation with the Security Information Agency was raised to a higher level which presents a new quality, and repeated that members of the Serbian Military have had no contact with any Hague defendants.
The Committee members asked the MSA Chief various questions concerning the Agency’s activities and deemed its last year’s Activity Report very detailed. They noted that the Military Security Agency had fully abided by the legal framework, and gave a particularly positive evaluation of the cooperation established between the military and civil security services.
The Committee unanimously adopted the Military Security Agency’s 2008 Activity Report.
The sitting was chaired by the Committee Deputy Chairman, Dusan Bajatovic.
