Thirty-Seventh Sitting of the Industry Committee

At the sitting held on 22 June, the Industry Committee members considered the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development Activity Information and were briefed on the manner of allocation of economic development stimulus funds. The sitting was attended by Vesna Paunovic, Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development and Nebojsa Atanackovic, President of the Serbian Association of Employers.

Briefing the Committee on the Ministry’s work and measures implemented to stimulate economic development, Paunovic drew attention to the loans the Ministry granted to encourage production and export as well as the subsidized sale price of vehicles and machines important for agriculture and industry, which have a positive effect on both producers and buyers.

The President of the Serbian Association of Employers presented to the Committee members the Association’s Report on the “Condition of the industry of the Republic of Serbia and measures for industrial recovery and development”. He pointed out that some of the measures that should be implemented to ensure industrial recovery do not necessitate any investment of funds yet still contribute to the efficient functioning of the system, such as introducing order into the payment system, reform of the tax system and amendments to the Labour Law.

In the debate on the presented information, the Committee members deemed the Report of the Serbian Association of Employers very useful, providing an objective assessment of the situation and proposed measures for industrial recovery and development. They agreed that the report should be forwarded to the competent ministries and to request an opinion on it.

The Committee members agreed to hold a Committee sitting in early July to consider the Association’s Report as well as Ministry of Economy and Regional Development Activity Report and the Conclusions of the fist sitting of the Serbian Parliament of Enterprises so that the Committee members could have more complete data necessary to consider the potential and measures for industrial recovery.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Milorad Buha.
