Seventy-Seventh Sitting of the Justice and Administration Committee

At the sitting held on 26 May, the Justice and Administration Committee considered and accepted the High Judicial Council 2010 Activity Report, Public Prosecutor’s Offices Activity Report on suppressing criminality and protection of constitutionality and legitimacy in 2010, as well as the Ombudsman’s 2010 Regular Annual Report. In addition the Committee reviewed and accepted the Ministry of Justice Activity Information for the period 1 January - 31 March 2011.


The High Judicial Council 2010 Activity Report was presented by President Nata Mesarovic who said that in the first year of its implementation the judiciary reform has given very good results and court cases would no longer be allowed to last as long as 20 years. She stressed that the members of the new composition of the High Judicial Council had started work on reviewing the decisions on the election of judges, and that the whole procedure would be made transparent.

Presenting the Public Prosecutor’s Offices Activity Report on suppressing criminality and protection of constitutionality and legitimacy in 2010, Republic Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac stated that the efficient network of public prosecutor’s offices established last year has already given good results.

The Committee members deemed that the prosecutor’s office has achieved progress in their work on all levels in the last year and pointed out the need to amend the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code.

Minister of Justice Sneznana Malovic spoke about the activities of the Ministry of Justice in the first quarter of the year. Presenting the Ministry’s Activity Information for the period she stated that among other activities the Ministry answered 200 questions from the European Commission Questionnaire, as well as the additional questions.

Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic explained the Ombudsman’s 2010 Regular Annual Report, the part relating to exercising civic rights. He pointed out that the citizens are increasingly aware of their rights, but that the administrative bodies do not function well. He stated that the citizens mostly complain about the work of the ministries, then the length of court procedures and that the administrative bodies do not execute the court rulings.
