At its seventh sitting held on 24 September, the Culture and Information Committee discussed and adopted the Report on the enforcing of the Law on free access to information of public importance in 2006. The sitting was chaired by Slobodan Gavrilovic. Apart from the deputies, representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Trustee for information of public importance, Rodoljub Sabic also took part in the proceedings.

Elaborating the Report, Rodoljub Sabic pointed out the problem of the lack of staff trained for enforcing the Law on free access to information of public importance, which makes it is necessary to conduct a serious program of education, adding to it the fact that the Trustee is not able to prosecute those who violate the Law. It is also necessary to pass Laws pertaining to data classification, protection of personal data and handling of files to ensure a better implementation of this Law, Sabic said.

The Ministry of Culture received about 700 cases from Trustees for information of public importance and launched 120 offense procedures. Representatives of the Ministry stressed the necessity of conducting a campaign with the goal of acquainting the public with their rights under the Law on free access to information of public importance.
