At the second sitting held on 30 July, the Agriculture Committee discussed the Information of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management on the completed harvest of stubble cereals and the total state of agriculture and the Ministry’s Work Programme for the rest of 2008.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman Zoran Masic, and attended by the Minister of Agriculture Sasa Dragin and associates.

Minister Dragin presented the Information on the completed harvest of stubble cereals to the Committee members stressing that this year’s production of wheat is of exceptional quality and with its 4.5 tons per hectare is an improvement to the previous year. Wheat reserves amount to 327 000 tons enabling export of at least 400 000 tones of the plant culture. This year’s wheat crop buyout price was 14.80 to 15.00 RSD before VAT.

Presenting the Ministry’s Work Programme for the rest of 2008, as some of the basic goals Minister Dragin listed settling

financial obligations toward agricultural producers; more intensive work on legislative activities in the field of agriculture; monitoring the market for agrarian produce; adequate control of agrarian policy; monitoring, identification and destruction of genetically modified cultures; promotion and encouragement of small producers; cooperation with countries in the region; production of organic food and introduction of geographical information system.

Following a thorough discussion on all the items on the agenda, the Committee members unanimously accepted the Information of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management on the completed harvest of stubble cereals and the total state of agriculture and the Ministry’s Work Programme for the rest of 2008.

At the initiative of “Selo” review, the Committee went on to unanimously rule to take part in the manifestation “Election of Host of Serbia”.
