Republic of Serbia - Republic of Srpska Parliamentary Forum: The goal is cooperation for the benefit of the entire region
The Republic of Serbia – Republic of Srpska Parliamentary Forum was constituted today in the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska and its Rules of Procedure were adopted.
The parliamentary forum consists of delegations of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, which each have 11 members.
The session was chaired by the Parliamentary Forum co-chairmen Igor Zunic and Dusan Maric.
The members of the Forum were greeted at the beginning of the First Constitutive Session by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Dr Nenad Stevandic who said this forum was constituted on legal grounds and wished all of its members good and successful cooperation.
Parliamentary Forum member, National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia MP Milimir Vujadinovic pointed out that tomorrow is exactly 17 years since the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina ratified the Agreement on Special and Parallel Relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, which specifies this type of cooperation that has finally been reached. He said that in the past period, Serbia had invested 110 million euros in projects in the Republic of Srpska, thanks to its accelerated development in all segments.
Vujadinovic stressed that the Republic of Serbia-Republic of Srpska Parliamentary Forum is not directed against anyone and that this cooperation is for the benefit of everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. "The goal of this is to defuse tensions and cooperate for the benefit of the entire region," he said.
The Parliamentary Forum’s Rules of Procedure regulate the way it works and acts, its composition and goals.
The Parliamentary Forum is to meet twice a year in the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, the Bureau that coordinates its activities is made up of the speakers of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, and the chairmen and deputy chairmen of each of the delegations.
The Parliamentary Forum can adopt declarations and decisions submitted to the Council for Cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, to the national assemblies and governments of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.
At the press conference after the end of today's session, co-chairman Maric said that cooperation between Srpska and Serbia in the last 10 years has been at a high level. "I am convinced that the formation of the Parliamentary Forum will raise cooperation to a higher level. The work of the Forum will be aligned with the Dayton Agreement and is not directed against Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the contrary, there is room for cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina", said Maric.
Co-Chairman Zunic said that a historic step was taken today, which is the continuation of the deepening of the special ties between Srpska and Serbia. "I am satisfied that the representatives of the other two constituent nations also participate in the work of the Forum. This body will offer cooperation, peace and conversation. The initiatives we will launch will not be directed against anyone", said Zunic.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Nenad Stevandic and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in the previous legislature Dr Vladimir Orlic signed the Memorandum on the formation of the Republic of Serbia – Republic of Srpska Parliamentary Forum on 20 September 2023.
