Regional Conference - Role of Parliament in Combating Corruption

A parliamentary delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, comprising MPs Dubravka Filipovski, Marija Obradovic and Milan Lapcevic, took part in the Regional Conference in Moldova dedicated to exchanging experiences on combating corruption, the role the countries in the region play in these efforts and how to best join forces to address the issue.

MP Dubravka Filipovski presented the cooperation the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia enjoys with the independent regulatory bodies (the Anti-Corruption Agency and State Audit Institution) in the fight against corruption. The attendees were particularly interested in the presentation on the establishment of the GOPAC National Branch in Serbia and the activities of the MPs – GOPAC members. Filipovski presented the Serbian citizens’ views and expectations as regards combating corruption, and the strengthening of the National Assembly’s oversight role and transparency.
“The Parliament’s role is to promote zero-tolerance for corruption through the laws it passes. A strong parliament and strong institutions are the cornerstone of the fight against corruption. That is why we believe that independent regulatory bodies and civil society organisations should be the natural partners of the parliamentary committees and working bodies in the creation of public policies.”

The MPs participation was funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
