Assembly House was the venue for the ceremonial presentation of prizes of the Talented Youth Fund of the Republic of Serbia, an activity designed to foster and continue development of young people.

The secondary school and university students, recipients of the Fund’s 2006 prizes, were welcomed by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, who underlined that this year’s recipients ‘were the first people to sit in Assembly House benches – even before the deputies – not because they should be flattered, but because they should be “feared”, as it is they who will take responsibility for governing the country in the future’. Markovic invited the young to put their talents to use, and to make sure that the flag is raised high ‘under which we will all stand proudly’.

The prize-winners were also addressed by the Minister of Education and Sports, Slobodan Vuksanovic; the prizes, amounting to 750,000, 500,000, 400,000, 200,000, 100,000, 70,000 and 40,000 dinars, were handed out by the Minister of Finance, Mladjan Dinkic. This year saw the presentation of prizes to 231 secondary school and university students, for having won first, second and third places at the most important national, international, and global competitions.
