National Assembly Session Simulation Held for Political Science Faculty Students

Today, the National Assembly organised a session simulation for 50 students of the Belgrade Faculty of Political Sciences.

The Students had the opportunity to play the role of legislator and through a simulation deliberate on the bill banning the sale of alcoholic beverages between 10 pm and 6 am in retail facilities.
The students were welcomed into the National Assembly by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gordana Comic who said that they would have the opportunity to learn about the National Assembly’s manner of operation and the legislative process via a session simulation. By learning about the process of constitution of the National Assembly, from the verification of terms of office, election of National Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speakers, to the constitution of parliamentary groups and working bodies, the students will change their opinion of the MPs and their work, concluded Deputy Speaker Comic.
At the beginning of the simulation the students received certificates of election for MPs, formed parliamentary groups, elected the National Assembly leadership and working bodies and commenced a debate on the bill. Through practical work the students learned about debates in principle and in detail which take place at sessions, debates which take place at committee sittings, submission of amendments and committee reports and at the end, voted on and adopted the bill. Deputy Speaker Comic and MPs Borislav Stefanovic, Dejan Nikolic and Dusan Obradovic provided support and assistance in the course of the session simulation.
The session simulation programme was developed by the National Assembly in cooperation with the Faculty of Political Sciences, Ministry of Education and Munich Centre for Applied Policy Research, with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia. The programme has been conducted for four years now and has so far been attended by more than 2000 high-school and university students from all over Serbia. The programme is recommended as an extra-curricular activity and is an authorised educational tool.
