PFG with Armenia Meets with Armenian Ambassador

The Head and members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Armenia met with the non-resident Armenian Ambassador to Serbia based in Prague H.E. Ashot Hovakimyan.

The Head of the PFG with Armenia Aleksandar Cotric expressed his satisfaction with the meeting and the continuation of successful cooperation through the work of the newly formed Parliamentary Friendship Group, whose 16 members approached it with special enthusiasm and a desire to improve cooperation. Cotric emphasised that Serbs traditionally perceive Armenians as a friendly and fraternal people, with whom they share a common past and present, religious and cultural ties, adding that the Armenian community in Serbia greatly contributes to it. In the context of traditionally friendly relations, PFG member Tatjana Manojlovic put forward a proposal to promote historical traces of cooperation and ties with Armenia on the territory of Serbia.

Ambassador Hovakimyan stressed that fostering friendly relations between the two peoples is extremely important, adding that he looks forward to the future cooperation with the Parliamentary Friendship Group. Pointing out that there is ample room to intensify cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture and economy, he stressed that it is important to use these potentials. In the course of the meeting, the Ambassador informed the hosts about the current political situation in Armenia and the open issues the country has with neighbouring Azerbaijan, in light of which Cotric expressed his gratitude to Armenia for its principled support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The meeting was also attended by PFG members Stasa Stojkovic and Strahinja Erac, who expressed their satisfaction with the future cooperation and willingness to actively participate in its improvement.
