Ninth Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee

At the sitting held on 7 June 2021, the members of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee considered the state-of-play in the field of livestock breeding with a special focus on pig farming.


The only item of the agenda was presented by State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Jelena Blagojevic.

Blagojevic said that the economic and financial position of agricultural farms, especially the livestock sector, significantly deteriorated due to the global pandemic crisis, which also affected the territory of the Republic of Serbia.

She went on to say that the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management have taken measures to stabilise the market through the Decree on the establishment of the Programme of financial support tor agricultural producers through the purchase of market surpluses of fattening cattle in difficult economic conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

A Decree on financial assistance to agricultural household was also passed providing a one-time assistance in absolute amount of money per head of cattle.

She said that the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management held a series of meetings with representatives of relevant associations in order to find solutions and improve their business dealings. As the introduction of levies is concerned, according to the Secretary of State, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management talked to the representatives of relevant ministries who opposed the introduction of levies.

Nenad Katanic, Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, also addressed the Committee, emphasising the importance of cooperation between it and the Ministry he represents. He stressed that the state is always ready to help and intervene on the market, among other things, to buy a certain amount of fatlings, as well as replace fattened pigs with mercantile corn through the Republic Commodity Reserves.

Following a constructive discussion, the Committee adopted conclusions on the item on the agenda.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Momir Stojilkovic, Olja Petrovic, Velibor Stanojlovic, Nenad Filipovic, Milija Miletic, Stanislava Janosevic, Nikola Kozovic, Arpad Fremond, Veroljub Matic, Tijana Davidovac and Zarko Bogatinovic.
