National Assembly Speaker and Slovenian National Assembly PFG with Serbia Delegation

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with a delegation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Serbia in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, headed by Lena Grgurevic.

In the course of the meeting, the officials praised the cooperation at the level of parliamentary friendship groups, as well as the constant increase in the number of members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Slovenia in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, whose Head Milija Miletic also attended the meeting.

The officials expressed satisfaction with the strong economic partnership between the two countries, especially with the fact that the Republic of Serbia is number two investment destination for Slovenian capital. They also expressed willingness to, based on the traditionally friendly bilateral, continue to work together in all areas of interest.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia informed the delegation of the Slovenian National Assembly about the difficult situation for Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and yet another wave of organised violence that they are facing. "Instead of lowering tensions and relaxing the situation, Albin Kurti is doing the opposite - he is trying to lead to a major escalation and destroy the peace. That it is Kurti who is the source of the problem is unmistakeably clear to everyone and the international community has been openly saying it in recent days," said Dr Orlic, reminding that Pristina is trying to impose its illegitimate and undemocratic rule in areas where only Serbs live, with brutal force, usurping municipal buildings, harassing the unarmed people in sit-in protest and shooting them with live ammunition. "We expect the entire international public to strongly condemn this violence, for Kurti's special forces to withdraw immediately and for Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija to be guaranteed security," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Lena Grgurevic expressed the expectation that the situation in Kosovo-Metohija would be resolved peacefully, as well as that all the signed agreements and commitments would be fully implemented, which in the first place means the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities. She said she hoped for Serbia to join the EU as soon as possible, add that Slovenia is ready to provide our country with all the necessary help and support on that path. She especially stressed that the Slovenian dignitaries keep the issue of the position and status of the Serbian community in their country high on their agenda.
