National Assembly Speaker and Culture and Information Committee Chairperson Maja Gojkovic – Press Release

“In yesterday’s protest in front of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, part of the sculpture Black Horses at Play by Toma Rosandic, erected before the National Assembly House in 1938, was defaced by graffiti.

Serbia is a democratic state in which every citizen can express their displeasure by peaceful protest. I appeal to all the protesters not to destroy or take part in the devastation of historical and cultural monuments.

With the help of art historians and art restoration and conservation experts, we will assess the damage and try to take steps to, as much as possible, remove the traces from the sculpture Black Horses at Play.

80 years after the completion of the National Assembly House it is our duty to protect this edifice which has been declared a cultural monument”, said the National Assembly Speaker.
