National Assembly Speaker Meets with US Ambassador to Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill to discuss the continuation of cooperation and current political situation.

Dr Vladimir Orlic pointed out that the relations between Serbia and the US are on a constant rise, opining that the interparliamentary cooperation has so far been on a high level. He expressed the expectation that the new legislature’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with the US would be as numerous, as in the previous National Assembly legislatures.

Ambassador Hill opined that there is mutual goodwill to further improve relations between our countries, expressing his belief that together we can achieve a lot more in the future.

The National Assembly Speaker emphasised the importance of all the past, as well as future investments, coming to Serbia from the US, especially the joint construction of infrastructure in our country. "With investments that mean new jobs, highways that we have been waiting for for decades and which are now finally becoming a reality - are changing the face of Serbia and raising the quality of life of our citizens." Serbia will continue to strengthen its economy in the coming period", said Dr Orlic, stressing that the citizens had given their wholehearted support to this policy in the presidential and parliamentary elections. He also thanked the US for its support of Serbia's European integration process.

The meeting also touched on the importance of regional cooperation with the officials agreeing that the "Open Balkans" initiative, launched by the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, is extremely important for connection and cooperation in the Western Balkans.

The National Assembly Speaker and the US Ambassador also discussed the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with both sides noting that Belgrade is sincerely committed to seeking solutions that would preserve peace and stability for all, in accordance with Serbia’s clear state policy and the protection of its vital interests.
