National Assembly Speaker Meets with Newly-Appointed Palestinian Ambassador to Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the newly-appointed Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Serbia H.E. Mohamed Al Namoura, welcoming him and wishing him a successful service in Belgrade.

Dr Orlic emphasised the traditionally good relations between the two countries, as well as the National Assembly’s willingness to strengthen cooperation at all levels and contribute to the development of relations with the State of Palestine.

He also thanked Palestine for its strong support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and for taking a clear position in international forums regarding the non-recognition of so-called "Kosovo". The National Assembly Speaker informed the Ambassador about the very difficult situation in the southern Serbian province, indisputably caused by the dangerous moves of Albin Kurti, who openly shows his intention to expel the Serbian people from Kosovo-Metohija. He spoke of Kurti's recent visit to North Macedonia during which he promoted the "Greater Albania" project, pointing out that this kind of behaviour poses a danger not only for Serbia, but for the entire region. Serbia on the other hand, Speaker Orlic said, remains committed to dialogue and the continuation of its own comprehensive progress already well recorded in the economy, infrastructure and many other areas.

Ambassador Al Namoura noted Serbia’s notable progress in great many areas in recent years, expressing readiness to intensify cooperation in the fields of economy, culture and education. The Ambassador also conveyed the greetings of the Chairman of the Palestinian National Council to Dr Orlic, saying that, during his diplomatic mandate, he would support any initiative for a more intensive exchange of visits between parliamentarians.

He especially emphasised that Palestine considers Serbia a friendly country and that the non-recognition of so-called "Kosovo" is a position which it will not deviate from. He also pointed to the similarity of the challenges faced by the State of Palestine in the Middle East, stressing the importance of abiding by international law and the universal respect for its principles.
