National Assembly Speaker Meets with Maltese Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Malta Ian Borg.

Brnabic welcomed Borg to Serbia and expressed satisfaction that she has the opportunity to speak with the Chairperson of such an important institution as the OSCE at the very beginning of her mandate as the Parliament Speaker.

The National Assembly Speaker reminded the guest that two years ago the Parliament had adopted constitutional amendments that strengthen the independence of the judiciary, in which the assistance of the OSCE was invaluable.

Borg commended Serbia for its readiness to cooperate with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, pointing out that our country has shown great commitment to this despite numerous challenges.

Brnabic informed Borg that tomorrow she had invited all the parliamentary parties to another round of talks concerning the implementation of the recommendations of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). She stressed that the meeting will also be attended by civil society organisations, Serbia’s international partners and representatives of the OSCE Mission to Serbia.

The meeting with the Maltese guest was also attended by Sandra Bozic, National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Head of the National Assembly delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Marina Ragus, National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as Jan Braathu, Head of the OSCE Mission in Serbia.
