National Assembly Speaker Meets with Cuban Foreign Minister

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba Bruno Rodriguez Parilla, currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia.

Dr Vladimir Orlic said he was very pleased with this return visit to Serbia, coming immediately after the visit of Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic to Cuba, which speaks volumes of the friendship and extraordinary bilateral relations between the two countries.

Speaking of the two countries' high level of parliamentary relations, the National Assembly Speaker pointed out the potential for its additional expansion in the new legislature through an exchange of visits of delegations of the two national parliaments’ friendship groups as well as working bodies.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parilla agreed that the ties between Serbia and Cuba are historically firm, adding that this year marks the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries.

He opined that the prospects for advancing parliamentary cooperation, both at the bilateral level and in international forums are good as Serbia and Cuba share similar interests and common issues.

The National Assembly Speaker thanked Cuba for its principled position as regards Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, stressing that Serbia continuously faces great challenges and pressures in Kosovo-Metohija caused by the dangerous and irresponsible moves of the Provisional Institutions in Pristina. “Serbia’s leadership, headed by President Aleksandar Vucic, invests great efforts into finding solutions that would secure peace and stability and safety for the endangered Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija”, stressed Dr Orlic, adding that Serbia would continue to firmly pursue the responsible policy of maintaining its national and state interests.

The officials also discussed the opportunities for advancing economic cooperation between Serbia and Cuba, as well as cooperation in the fields of healthcare, pharmacy, technology and agriculture.

The meeting was also attended by Cuban Ambassador to Serbia Gustavo Trista del Todo.
