National Assembly Speaker Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic Meets with Austrian Foreign Ministry State Secretary in Vienna

National Assembly Speaker Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic met today, in Vienna, with the State Secretary at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Reinhold Lopatka.

Their meeting focused on improving the two countries’ cooperation, Austria’s continued help to Serbia’s European integration and support in the implementation of the Brussels Agreement.

Talking to Lopatka, Speaker Stefanovic thanked Austria for its principled support of Serbia’s efforts on the road to Europe and all the reforms underway in Serbia, particularly in the spheres of economy and in combating corruption and crime. He said he expected Austria’s support in the implementation of the Brussels Agreement on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija, and to Serbs living there.

Stefanovic and the Austrian dignitaries also discussed the potentials for improving reciprocal investments, with a special focus on Austrian investment into Serbia, as well as supporting the functioning of small and medium-sized enterprises, seeing how this model is very successful in Austria. The Speaker also thanked Austria for all its investments into Serbia. In the course of the meeting, the officials also highlighted the excellent cooperation between the two chambers of commerce, as well as the future cooperation to be established at the state level.

Speaker Stefanovic informed Lopatka about the current situation in Serbia and the changes resulting from the government reshuffle, the state’s plans as regards European integration, as well as the work of the Parliament and its committees which are to control the European integration process in future. He stressed that the Parliament will work on establishing the appropriate legislative framework for the combat against corruption and crime and zero tolerance for them, and set up a business framework allowing investors free access to Serbia.

Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic and Reinhold Lopatka also discussed the status of the Serbian community in Austria. The Speaker said that Serbia is satisfied, in principle, with the way the Serbian community is represented in Vienna, but that its position still needs to be improved so that the Serbian community might gain the status of autochthonous minority.
