National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus Meets with Hungarian Ambassador to Serbia

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus met today with Hungarian Ambassador to Serbia Jozsef Magyar to discuss bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Hungary.

Deputy Speaker Ragus congratulated the Prime Minister of Hungary on the results achieved after the elections for European Parliament, and the Hungarian Ambassador conveyed the greetings the Chairman of the Hungarian Parliament Foreign Policy Committee Zsolt Nemeth sent to Deputy Speaker Ragus on her appointment to the positions of National Assembly Deputy Speaker Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
The officials agreed that after all the elections held in both countries, there is a period ahead in which they should set a timetable for improving relations, especially at the parliamentary level, and in light of Hungary’s presidency of the EU Council. Ambassador Magyar pointed out that, immediately after taking over the presidency from Belgium, his country will present its plan and priorities for the presidency as soon as possible and the focus will be on starting a dialogue in the negotiation process between Serbia and the EU.

Deputy Speaker Ragus thanked the Hungarian ambassador for his country's support to Serbia in international organisations, especially the UN and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and welcomed the initiative to intensify the exchange of opinions and experiences between parliaments, especially at the level of foreign affairs committees and parliamentary friendship groups.

The officials agreed that the period ahead gives both countries room to strengthen and intensify ties and cooperation in all fields of mutual interest.
