National Assembly Delegation Meets with European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Delegation

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Marina Ragus and members of the ruling coalition parliamentary groups met with the delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament (AFET).

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker expressed her protest to the head of the AFET delegation about the 30-minute delay. She welcomed the willingness to visit the exhibition on Jasenovac, even though they had initially requested to "bypass the area where the exhibition was set up...due to the sensitivity of the topic, which was pointed out by some MEPs."

Ms Temido, Head of the AFET delegation, suggested that Deputy Speaker Ragus present in a long introduction the facts of interest for the AFET visit.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker, through the areas of: European values, human and civil rights, the rule of law, spoke about the awakening of ideologies that we officially defeated eighty years ago, which we had the opportunity to see through Thomson's concerts in Croatia, which National Assembly Speaker Ms. Brnabic drew attention to personally. But to this day, we have not heard condemnations from the European Union.

The wrong choice, Ragus reminded, was the choice of the rapporteur for Serbia, Tonino Picula, who completely defined his position towards Serbia by publishing a photo in the "Black Mambas" uniform, celebrating Operation "Storm" which, together with another operation "Flash", ethnically cleansed the area of the Republic of Serbian Krajina of Serbs.

A minimally balanced stance is expected from the rapporteur for Serbia, one supposes. Instead, Serbia received a verdict, and not the EP resolution in question here.

So, before establishing the facts, a text was proposed that is nothing more than a political pamphlet standing exclusively on one side of the political actors in Serbia – the part of the pro-Brussels-oriented opposition.

So, Ragus further reminded, if peace and stability in the region are important to you, the rapporteur for Serbia must be changed.

"To show you," said Ragus, "that we do not have a problem with the Republic of Croatia, but with extremists, I will mention the example of the President of Croatia, Mr. Milanovic, who defined Jasenovac as a place of genocide against Serbs, Jews and Roma. He also said that Kosovo was stolen from Serbia." And these are historical facts. Just as a part of the citizens of Croatia rebelled against Thompson's concerts and the vampire like re-emergence of the Ustasha in Croatia.

In response to the objections of some members of the delegation as to why she did not speak, for example, about Srebrenica, Ragus reminded that the President of Serbia, Mr. Vucic, visited Potocari more than ten years ago and was stoned there. If the security had not reacted, he would have been killed. To this day, Ragus said, we have not found out who organized or who committed this heinous act.

Also, the President of Serbia is prevented from visiting Jasenovac, even as a private person, a descendant of Jasenovac victims, upon his request, with the explanation that "the conditions have not been met." And this has been going on for five years, Ragus reminded.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker expressed concern about certain cases and events from the previous period to which, as she emphasized, the European Union did not respond adequately, and which are in direct contradiction with European standards. She particularly pointed to the fact that during last year's protests and blockades, around 29,000, of them which were held illegally: hundreds of police officers were injured, a hundred SNS party premises were demolished, party officials and activists were physically attacked, people came in front of the houses where the state leadership and high-ranking party officials and their families live. Just as everyone who thinks differently from the attempt to impose exclusively one-mindedness is equally discriminated against.

These facts are not mentioned anywhere in the resolution.

The AFET members were provided with information prepared by Deputy Speaker Ragus, which contains facts through a chronology of protests, institutional responses, and accompanying photo documentation.

The statement in the resolution about the use of a sonic cannon is unacceptable and completely incorrect, even though today, especially after the recent events in Venezuela, we have concrete testimonies from people about the effects of using a sonic cannon: they were disoriented, they could not move, they fell like bundles, blood was coming out of their noses, they were vomiting blood, reminded the National Assembly Deputy Speaker.

The alleged sonic cannon in Serbia was never seen or heard by anyone. However, it was included in the resolution.

When it comes to the rule of law, it is absolutely unacceptable that fugitives from justice for whom warrants for arrest and extradition were issued and sent to Interpol were not extradited to Serbia. While Croatia, through the institute of International Legal Assistance, requested by the competent court in Serbia, was requested a hearing of Mila Pajic in June last year. To date, we have not received any response. This is a criminal prosecution due to the existence of grounds for suspicion of the commission of the criminal offense of "preparation of an act against the constitutional order and security of the Republic of Serbia."

The Deputy Speaker recalled hate speech that called for the lynching of dissenters: "just to mention some of the exclamations, we will ride them, fry them, stew them, chase them through the streets, throw them into the river, douse them with tar, cover them in feathers... and many others."

Although everyone in the EU was informed, we did not hear a clear position and condemnation on this issue from officials.

Deputy Speaker Ragus was unable to present the facts about the flagrant violation of human and civil rights of Serbs from Kosovo-Metohija because the delegation interrupted the meeting and left.

Deputy Speaker Ragus sent a sharp verbal note to the Head of the AFET delegation, expressing her protest that the ruling majority delegation was given only 13 minutes of the AFET delegation's time.

Thus, the meeting, to which the European delegation was 30 minutes late, was adjourned 13 minutes after it began.

The meeting was also attended by MPs Dunja Simonovic Bratic, Zivota Starcevic, Boris Bajic and Branimir Jovanovic.
