Panel Discussion and Screening of Documentary Jasenovac Pledge at Yugoslav Film Archive

The Yugoslav Film Archive hosted a panel discussion and ceremonial premiere of the documentary "The Jasenovac Pledge", held under the auspices of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, dedicated to the suffering of the Adler family in the Jasenovac death camp.

On behalf of the Committee, Committee members Miodrag Linta and Bojan Torbica addressed the audience, as Committee Chairman Dragan Stanojevic was unable to attend the event. They underlined the importance of institutional support for fostering a culture of remembrance and preserving the truth about the suffering of the Serbian, Jewish and Roma people, as well as all anti-fascists in the system of Ustasha camps during World War II.

The documentary, a Norwegian-Israeli-Serbian co-production, testifies to the fate of the Adler family and the multi-generational "Jasenovac Pledge" - the moral obligation of descendants to pass on the truth about the crimes to future generations. It is particularly emphasised that the victims of Jasenovac must not be forgotten and that the memory of their suffering is an enduring responsibility of the society and institutions.

Prof. Dr Gideon Greif, Chief Researcher at the Shem Olam Holocaust Institute, spoke about the importance of historical research and the fight against revisionism. He recalled that the history of Jasenovac is preserved not only in archives and monuments, but also in family memories that are passed down through generations, stressing that the film was premiered in honour of the Jasenovac martyrs.

The programme highlighted the results of the work of the International Expert Group of Historians GH7 – STOP REVISIONS, founded in 2016, which has, in cooperation with the competent institutions of the Republic of Serbia, conducted several significant projects, including:

- The first public hearing on Jasenovac in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2016 and the first exhibition on Jasenovac in 2017 after World War II;

- Exhibition "JASENOVAC - THE RIGHT TO REMEMBRANCE" at the United Nations headquarters in 2018;

- Publication of the trilogy by Prof. Dr Gideon Greif and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education in 2017;

- Establishment of the Serbian-Jewish Academic Centre "Saint Sava and Yehuda Alkalai" at the Ono Academic College in Jerusalem in 2019.

The event was attended by Ana Ivanovic, Miodrag Linta and Bojan Torbica, members of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, as well as camp survivors, historians, students and other guests.
