Members of PFG with Kazakhstan Meet with Kazakh Ambassador to Serbia

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Kazakhstan met today in the National Assembly with the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Serbia, H.E. Madi Atamkulov and, on the occasion, jointly assessed that the relations between the two countries are friendly and with no open issues, as well as that there is room to improve cooperation in many areas.

The Head of the PFG with Kazakhstan Zoran Tomic thanked Kazakhstan for its principled support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, opining that the fighting for respecting international law, which should be the same for all countries, is the two countries’ common goal.

Kazakh Ambassador Madi Atamkulov said that Kazakhstan would continue to support Serbia, which is an important Balkan country and partner to Kazakhstan, on the Kosovo-Metohija issue. He also said that the previous year was marked by the tragic conflict between Russia and Ukraine and expressed the hope that all the open issues would be resolved diplomatically.

Zoran Tomic agreed with the Ambassador, pointing out that Serbia, led by the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic, advocates that all conflicts be resolved peacefully and strives to resolve the problems in Kosovo through dialogue, which Pristina is obstructing.

He spoke of the importance of Kazakhstan's support of Serbia's struggle to preserve Kosovo-Metohija, especially in international organisations and institutions. It is important that Kazakhstan, and other friendly countries, do not support so-called Kosovo’s requests for membership in international organisations and institutions, stressed Tomic.

Serbia attaches great importance to regional cooperation, as evidenced by the "Open Balkans" initiative, launched by the Serbian President, said Zoran Tomic, expressing the expectation that, in addition to Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania, the rest of the region would soon join the initiative.

In the course of the conversation, the Head of the PFG with Kazakhstan and the Kazakh Ambassador agreed that the interparliamentary cooperation between our two countries is well developed, jointly assessing that two parliaments’ friendship groups have a long-standing tradition of good relations. They expressed the expectation that delegations of the two parliamentary friendship groups would exchange visits in the coming period.

The officials also discussed the possibilities for improving economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as cooperation in the field of IT, defence and the fight against organized crime, education, culture, tourism and sports. Tomic said that Serbia invests a lot in the development of road infrastructure, as well as in the education of young people, adding that there are five science and technology parks in our country and pointing out that this opens the possibility for Kazakh entrepreneurs and innovators to launch their business ideas in our country.

The meeting was also attended by members of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Kazakhstan Dragomir Karic, Ninoslav Eric, Nemanja Joksimovic, Nevena Djuric, Nikola Nesic, Marko Bogdanovic and Stasa Stojanovic, who emphasised the importance of familiarising Kazakhstan with all the potential for cooperation with Serbia. They especially emphasised the possibility of closer connection and twinning of the Kazakh and Serbian cities.
