Meeting Held on Environmental Economics

Yesterday, the National Assembly hosted a meeting on Environmental Economics to discuss the definition of public policy in support of the implementation of innovative solutions in the sphere of environmental economics.

Addressing the participants, MP Ivan Karic said that the concept of green economics as the basis of sustainable economic and social development means the use of renewable energy resources and efficient use of natural resources aimed at boosting the number of “green” jobs. Exchanging experiences with the representatives of the expert public dealing with the topic will help set up the foundations of a new view of economy, which is a process that should include everyone and use the best knowledge available, concluded MP Karic. He expects that the exchange of ideas will contribute to the formulation of a new state policy in the sphere of green economics.
Various environmental economics projects were presented at the meeting, based on innovative technologies and aimed at using renewable energy resources. The participants were able to gain additional information on the potentials of cogeneration, biomass and biogas which are the three cornerstones of green economics, the use of damless river hydropower and investment into wind power. They also discussed the properties and potential of aronia and fruit species native to Serbia, as well as the project of solar powered fruit and vegetable dryers. They particularly emphasised the positive financial impact of green economics.
The participants agreed that the formulation of a new institutional framework is of key importance, such as action plans, strategies, recommendations and resolutions which would allow the application of the principle of green economics as a component part of a wider concept of sustainable development. In addition, it was concluded that the need to develop technologies which would not additionally pollute the environment emerges as a big challenge of modern times. They also announced the organisation of forums which would deal with renewable energy resources and green agriculture in more detail.
The meeting, organised at the initiative of MP Ivan Karic, gathered the representatives of organisations and broad expert public dealing with the issue of environmental economics.
