High-schoolers from Gora municipality from Kosovo-Metohija visited today the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia as part of project “Bringing Institutions Closer to the Citizens”.

High-schoolers from Gora municipality from Kosovo-Metohija visited today the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia as part of project “Bringing Institutions Closer to the Citizens”.

Over 50 students of the economic-touristic high school toured the National Assembly House, and talked to the Secretary General Veljko Odalovic in the National Assembly Building.

The students informed Secretary Odalovic on the difficulties they face in every day work, as well as the conditions under which their education takes place. One of these students’ greatest problems is obtaining textbooks and the everyday transport to school considering that the school has been displaced from Gora to a near-by village. The school has 11 classes, containing 150 students taught by 25 teachers.

The National Assembly Secretary expressed his understanding for the problems mentioned and stressed that the state will do all in its power to create the conditions necessary for the children’s further education. He repeated that Gorans have one state, the Republic of Serbia, and that it is necessary to do everything to prevent this southernmost Kosovo municipality from becoming isolated.

In their conversation, the high-schoolers and the National Assembly Secretary talked about the National Assembly’s legislative function, the tasks facing the deputies in the upcoming period concerning the adoption of laws necessary for the harmonisation of the legislature with the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the necessary steps the National Assembly must take in passing laws to enable Serbia’s speedier accession to the European Union.

The meeting of the students and the National Assembly Secretary was also attended by the President of the Gora municipality, the school director and teachers.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia has been successfully realising public access programmes for over three years, within which over 20 000 citizens have visited the National Assembly.
