Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Committee Delegation Visits Gerontology Centre Belgrade
A delegation of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality visited Gerontology Centre Belgrade – Home Vozdovac. The visit was organised in preparation for the Committee’s public hearing, to be held on 26 October 2015 in cooperation with the Commissioner for Protection of Equality and USAID Judicial Reform and Government Accountability project, entitled “Aging – seniority: from privilege to discrimination”.
The things that could stand to be improved concern certain medical services such as providing specialist examinations e.g. by dermatologists or lab analyses in the home itself. They also said that the public transportation could be organised better i.e. this part of the city could use better connections with the downtown area. The clients also pointed out the lack of single-bed rooms and the fact that the prices of housing fail to follow the changing rate of pensions, while the management noted that the families i.e. children of their residents should take more part in their adaptation to life in the nursing home.
The Committee members agreed that this institution is a best practice example because it provides its residents a high level of services adding that the issues they brought to the Committee’s attention will be discussed at the public hearing and be taken into consideration during the Committee’s activities.
