Head of Parliamentary Friendship Group with Sweden Dr Milorad Mijatovic Meets with Swedish Trade Union Representatives

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Sweden, Dr Milorad Mijatovic, MP Vesna Milekic and representative of the Alliance of Independent Unions of Serbia Goran Milic met with a delegation of Swedish trade union representatives.

In the course of the meeting, Dr Mijatovic said that the trade unions in Serbia are not fully profiled yet and the political parties have no strict ideological adherences, which adds further confusion to whom the trade unions should address and for what. Mijatovic said that the model of cooperation between political parties and trade unions is yet to develop in Serbia and Sweden’s experience in the matter would prove greatly beneficial, also expressing his belief that the trade unions would surely feel the change as the new labour and labour rights law is being prepared.

The representatives of Swedish trade unions said that, contrary to common belief, the fight for workers’ rights in Sweden, which are now at a very high level, was not simple nor is it going smoothly at present either. It is a constant trade union battle which is the key to achieving workers’ rights – good information, articulate demands and strength they said, adding that they would help their Serbian counterparts through, primarily, projects.
