Gojkovic at Inter-Parliamentary Union Session

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Head of the standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union Maja Gojkovic will be heading the National Assembly delegation to the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Session to take place on 14 and 15 October in Saint Petersburg and aiming to promote the values of cultural pluralism and peace through interfaith and inter-ethnic accord.


The session will be attended by over 700 parliamentarians, including 85 heads of parliament and 50 of their deputies from all over the world.

Among other things, the parliamentarians will debate the draft resolution on “Sharing our diversity: The 20th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Democracy” at the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, then the role of parliament in monitoring the action of national armed forces participating in UN peacekeeping operations and sustaining peace as a vehicle for achieving sustainable development at the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security. There will also be discussion in the forum of women parliamentarians and the youth forum, as well as a debate on the role of the UN General Assembly in international governance, and the IPU is also to elect a president and vice-presidents.

At the margins the National Assembly Speaker will have a series of bilateral meetings, such as with the heads of the Russian, Belarusian and Armenian parliaments and others.
