Gojkovic Meets with Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II
In the course of the first day of her official visit to Georgia, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met with Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II. The officials agreed that Serbia and Georgia share a traditionally friendly and close relationship.
Gojkovic stressed that Serbia is grateful to Georgia for its principled support and non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija, as well as its support during Kosovo-Metohija’s UNESCO bid, adding that Serbia in turn supports Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The National Assembly Speaker said she was worried about the Serb churches, monasteries and cultural heritage in Kosovo-Metohija mentioning that in the last 10 years a great many churches, monasteries and other buildings in Kosovo-Metohija had been destroyed, damaged and desecrated.
The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia said that he had no doubt the Serbian Assembly Speaker’s visit would go a long way to advance the two countries close friendship.
Today, the National Assembly Speaker also met with the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze, and tomorrow she will be meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mikheil Janelidze.
