Fourth Sitting of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy

At the sitting held on 30 September, the members of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy were presented the state-of-pay of Serbia’s European integration as regards energy by the Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Janez Kopac.


Kopac gave an overview of the process of implementation of the Energy Community Treaty signed by the EU with eight countries from Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region, which covers electric power, gas, the environment, renewable energy, oil, energy efficiency, competition and statistics.

The chief objective of the Treaty is to attract investments into electric power production and network to secure a stable power supply as the key element of economic development, establishment of cross-border energy trade, environmental protection, enhancing the security of supply and competition at the regional level.

The Director of the Energy Community Secretariat said that though the Republic of Serbia is the first adhering party in the Energy Community to transpose the Third Energy Package into its national legislation and the only one to do so within the deadline, it has still not separated the areas of activity of the system operators in the vertically integrated enterprises of Srbijagas and Yugorosgaz.

The Committee Chairperson said that the Republic of Serbia and the Energy Community share a common interest which is to resolve all open issues through dialogue, adding that at the next ministerial meeting scheduled for 14 October she hopes for good partnership and new progress that will ease Serbia’s position.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Snezana B. Petrovic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dr Aleksandra Tomic, Dragomir Karic, Blaza Knezevic, Radmilo Kostic, Zoran Bojanic, Ivan Manojlovic, Snezana Paunovic, Tomislav Ljubenovic, Aleksandar Stevanovic, Dejan Nikolic, Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic, Natasa Mihailovic Vacic, MA Ivan Kostic, Gorica Gajic and Vojislav Vujic.
