Fourth Sitting of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality
At the sitting held on 19 September 2016, the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality reviewed the Report on the implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and the Law on Personal Data Protection in 2015.
Most of the Commissioner’s activity in 2015 concerned resolving complaints of violation of the right to free access to information of public importance and right to personal data protection, with the Commissioner’s intervention having positive effects in 95.8% of the cases.
Speaking of the implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and the Law on Personal Data Protection Sabic said that both laws have their own flaws and the Commissioner had on several occasions launched initiatives and given opinions about passing new or amending the existing regulations and endorsed initiatives coming from other subjects concerning the improvement of the regulations related to the right to access information, changing the passive stance public authorities assume toward the citizens’ requests and strengthening the transparency of state institutions. It was also stressed that there is still no Action Plan for the implementation of Personal Data Protection Strategy, and that it would be desirable to pass a protocol of cooperation between state institutions.
The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Meho Omerovic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Olena Papuga, Maja Videnovic, Milena Turk, Milosav Milojevic, Stefana Miladinovic, Nikola Jolovic, Marija Janjusevic, Enis Imamovic, Milanka Jevtovic Vukojicic, Tatjana Macura, Olivera Ognjanovic, Elvira Kovacs, Ivana Nikolic, Ljibuska Lakatos and Ljiljana Malusic.
