Fourteenth Sitting of the European Integrations Committee

At the sitting held on 13 May, the members of the European Integrations Committee considered in principle the Bills on General Product Safety, on Electronic Commerce, on Wine and on Official Statistics.

Presenting the Bill on General Product Safety, Assistant at the Ministry of Trade and Services Nebojsa Lazarevic stressed that it should enable the establishment of a rapid alert system on products the quality of which is not up to standards and its connection to the European system. The European Union market is closed to products not on the RAPEX system’s list.

Elaborating the Bill on Electronic Commerce Lazarevic stated that it should regulate this field in Serbia and harmonise it with EU practice.

The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Jelena Kuzmanovic said that the new Law on Wine will separate the production of wine from the production of other alcoholic beverages and treat it differently. The law will define the concept of geographic origin of wine, vineyard label and other, as well as design a way to control wine production.

Assistant Director of the Republic Statistical Office Nikola Latinovic stated that the adoption of the Bill on Official Statistics will harmonise Serbia’s statistical system with European Union regulations. He said that a Statistical Council will be formed six months after the bill is passed, and then a five-year statistical programme will be adopted.

The Committee accepted the Bills by a majority of votes, while the Committee members from the SRP Deputy Group reserved their opinions.
