Forty-Third Sitting of the European Integrations Committee

At the sitting held on 27 June, the European Integrations Committee debated the Bill on Youth in principle.

Elaborating the Bill, State Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sport Ivana Kovacevic stressed that the Bill aims to improve the social position of the youth in Serbia and create conditions conducive to the realisation of their needs and interests. The new law is harmonised with the 2008 National Youth Strategy and European Union strategies relating to the youth, said the State Secretary.

The Committee members pointed out that the youth is the most vulnerable part of the population in Serbia and that the law should ensure it systemic care, which among other things means free education, employment and support of youth organisation and inclusion in social and political life. They also spoke in favour of endorsing the opening of youth offices in local communities.

The Committee members endorsed the Bill on Youth in principle, by a majority of votes.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Laszlo Varga.
