Exhibition Marking 160th Years Since Birth of Russian Artist Nikolay Krasnov Opened in National Assmbly

Today, the 160th anniversary of the birth of Russian artist and architect Nikolay Krasnov was marked in the National Assembly House with a ceremonial exhibition opened by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus.

Ragus it was a great honour to be invited to the opening of the exhibition, which is only one in a series of events held to mark the liberation of Belgrade in the Second World War. She pointed out that it is an important duty, as she said: "especially in this period when there are efforts to read history differently", to mention our heroes and never forget them, because this is the only way to prevent Nazism and terror to repeat and reminded the attending of the sacrifices made by the Slavic peoples in both the First and Second World War. She added that Nikolay Krasnov left his mark on the interior of the National Assembly, the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, and that this famous artist and architect, due to unfortunate circumstances, that turned out to be fortunate for Serbia, left his mark all over our country.

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko also spoke at the opening of the exhibition, pointing out that Krasnov was one of a number of Russian emigrants who came to Serbia after the First World War, and that this exhibition will strengthen his memory and give us an insight into understanding his personality. He pointed out that Krasnov contributed to the construction of, first of all, Belgrade, as well as cities throughout Serbia. He said that this architect wanted to bolster Serbia's self-confidence, statehood and identity with his work, which is very important even in today's circumstances.

Dragomir Acovic, member of the Crown Council of the Karadjordjevic Royal Family, and Viktor Moskvin, director of the House of the Russian Diaspora then addressed the attending.

At the exhibition entitled "The Architect of Tsar Nicholas II", displays copies of photographs and watercolours from the Yalta Historical and Literary Museum and private collections, placed on 50 easels and four panels. The exhibition is part of the series of events marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade, "Russia and Serbia: Common Cultural Heritage".

The documentary "Do not forsake your duty and oath" directed by Aleksey Burykin was also played at the exhibition.
