Chinese Investments Revitalise Serbian Economy

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus spoke at the Belt and Road Venture Capital Investment Forum for Chinese and Foreign Renowned Innovative Enterprises as part of the Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange, held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.

During her speech, she pointed out the importance of Chinese investments that have preserved the economic stability of our country in difficult times, especially in Smederevo and Bor. She emphasised the importance of the 28 agreements signed during the last visit of the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, last year, including the very important Joint Declaration on Building a Community for a Shared Future in a New Era. Speaking of cooperation in the field of science, technology and innovation, she said that two training programmes will be implemented in China in 2025 within the framework of the Programme for Talented Young Scientists, intended for researchers and experts from our country. The first concerns cooperation in the field of poverty alleviation through science and technology, and the second to the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes. She also highlighted the joint scientific projects that have been implemented so far, as well as future ones.

In her speech, she also referred to the chief infrastructure projects that companies from China are participating in, the increase in Serbian exports thanks to Chinese companies operating in our country, Project Clean Serbia and the Chinese support in organising EXPO 2027. "Only China has offered its progress and inextricably integrated it into global development. Global security and peace are necessary for this development to be possible," concluded Ragus.

In addition to Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Ragus, opening speeches at the Forum were also delivered by the Chinese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Chen Jiachang, member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Congress of Sichuan Province, Sao Lijun, former President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and founder of the Belt and Road Alliance for National and International Science, Academician Bai Chunli, and the Consuls General of Turkey and Hungary in Chengdu, Mehmet Mert Tokman and Balint Czegel.
